Fashion designer Michael Sontag’s journey into scents…

Fashion photographer Per Zennstrom portraits designer Michael Sontag for Scentury – Perfume Stories. Scentury confronted the designer with a mystery perfume in a neutral, opaque vaporizer. Only afterwards was the name of the scent revealed. Follow Michael on his journey into scent …

Photographer Per Zennstrom conducted an extended portrait of fashion designer Michael Sontag for Scentury – Perfume Stories, an online platform that feature creative people from all over the world, connecting them with perfume and the fantasy, sensuality, vision, and inspiring stories that the scents evoke.
Scentury is the brainchild of Helder Suffenplan, who is also one of the forces behind much acclaimed multi-platform art project Upon Paper, and in this “blind tasting” the designer was asked to free-form associate on an for him unknown perfume – Dreckig Bleiben – by Perfumes Mayr Plettenberg.

“It smells like something I was very familiar with in my childhood: a smoky fire in an open hearth. When I was a child we lived in a very small old farmhouse with a built-in bench in the corner of the cozy sitting room, in front of the fireplace.”

“Life in the small farmhouse influenced me also in another regard. My parents never gave me the feeling that I need be afraid when leaving the house to explore the world around me. I was able to run wild in the woods and meadows, and to play with whatever nature and chance provided.”
