FURNITURE SPREADS ITS WINGS: THE FUNCTIONAL SCULPTURES OF R. J. SCOTT
Craftsmanship can put wings on the most solid pieces of furniture. It’s the case of table-console “Form or Function” by R.J. Scott, an exercise of artisanal handiwork that blurs the lines between form and function and expresses Scott’s sculptural abilities.
Inspired by the rocky formations in Arizona, this piece of furniture was finished with a technique that gives it a laminated veneer. A main structure of laminated and stacked up wooden blocks is cut into curving and abstract shapes, with the addition of a folded spiraling leg held with a great number of handmade clamps.
