SPARKS OF FOLK: ‘MORRIS AND THE FISHGIRL’ BY JOYCE WONG
Scottish fisherwomen of the late 19th century, raised petticoats to transport fresh fish in, music and colorful dances in costume. The world of folk festivals is an immense ocean from which to harpoon the best ideas. Also when it comes to fashion, as designer Joyce Wong would have it.
Originally from Hong Kong, Joyce studied fashion in London at LCF and will soon join the team of Kokon To Zai. For his latest collection, he was inspired by Morris, a very choreographic English folk dance, and by women roleplaying and dressing up as fishergirls of the late 19th century during the folk parades in the north of Great Britain.
