Colors of Jaipur Festivals: 5 interesting festivals held in the Pink City

Jaipur is one of the most popular Indian destinations and one which is enthusiastically visited by foreigners. It is said that if you wish to explore the culture and tradition of the country, then it is this pink city where you should fly away to. The city shows its true colors during its various festivals and fairs which are spread throughout the year. Using a Jaipur tourism guide, you can know comprehensive details about all these festivals.

Here are some of the major ones:

Camel Festival:

Camel is like the poster boy of Rajasthan. So it is only fair that one festival be named after this humble animal. Camel Festival is held in the month of January and kick starts in the town of Bikaner. During this festival, these creatures are decorated with fine clothes and jewels and a number of contests are held for the sake of pleasure and revelry.

Desert Festival:

If you decide to venture out of Jaipur and check out the nearby towns, then do make sure to visit Jaisalmer. It is here that you get to see extensive stretches of deserts and sand dunes. So, the Desert Festival is hosted primarily by this city, though the sounds and revelries reach out to every corner of the state. Colors, clothes and camels play a huge role on this sprightly and spirited occasion.

Gangaur Fair:

Though it is a festival which is celebrated all over the country, you should travel to certain selected tourism places near Jaipur to be a part of the hysteria which accompanies this event. There is spiritualism involved in this festival and there is also a hint of joie de vivre.

Kite Festival:

On the 14th of January, this festival is celebrated with gusto and fanfare in the whole of Rajasthan, particularly in the capital city of Jaipur. People fly kites on this occasion. So, if you have never enjoyed flying a kite, this is the day you should give it a try. But mind it; it is very difficult to handle a kite when it is sailing in the sky. It may take some time to master the art, but the fun is guaranteed even if you are an amateur.

Dussehra:

Dussehra is another festival which is celebrated with fervor in Jaipur. It is another festival of national significance and is marked with the burning of the evil Ravana’s effigy. Many of the Jaipur photos depict Dussehra and other local festivals of the state.
