‘IMPLEMENTS’ BY JESSICA DRENK, A BOUQUET OF SCULPTED PENCILS
Some people use pencils to draw and others use them as a surface to be sculpted. American artist Jessica Drenk glued together an enormous quantity of pencils, arranged so as to be able to smooth them down until obtaining textures similar to ambiguous logs corroded by water and time. And sculpture series “Implements” was thus created.
Like a speleologist digging through the less explored layers of cultural material, Jessica re-emerged from this chaotic universe, transforming common objects like books into fossil remains (“Reading our Remains”), rolls of toilet paper and tissues in mineral formations (“Porcelain Skins”).
