When I was diagnosed with colon cancer in September of 2011 and began treatments that made me too tired to make art for several months, it was my first break from making art in over a decade. After recovering from major surgery I started chemotherapy. Even though I didn’t lose much hair, I still shaved it off to make things easier on my day-to-day life. This series of images was my return to art, all made during chemotherapy. I was excited to have a bald head to work with to create these images. Making them helped keep my spirits up during treatment. I just finished my last chemo treatment, and I have scans coming up soon, but as of now the doctors think the cancer is gone, and I love life more than ever. To me, these images represent making the best of whatever life throws at me.
