With a goal of showcasing the ordinary people of New York, photographer Mark Gong and art director Edi Inderbitzin set out in the Spring of 2011 to photograph its less seen citizens. Far removed from the iconic lights of Manhattan’s Time Square, these New Yorkers are the backbone of the city, giving it heart and soul. Covering all five boroughs, from the housing projects to the beaches, they are photographed as they are, going about their everyday lives. Using a monochrome palette on a plain background, the subjects speak for themselves. These portraits are dedicated to the individuals that make the city so arresting and unforgettable.
