‘Feelings’ by Ivana Rezek
Ivana Rezek is a painter, illustrator and independent curator from Zagreb, Croatia. She is working in many different styles and media, but the common characteristic of all of her works is the strong emotional component.
Most frequent motif in Ivana’s paintings are the eyes and the face, often reduced to their most basic features. In her series titled ‘Feelings’ this is enough the capture the essence of something as hard to depict as the world of emotions.
This is what Ivana says about her work:
‘In my work I’m trying to capture different states of mind, portray strong, intense, and often complex emotions, combine the fragments of memories and impressions into a dream-like scene. I try to explore the full spectre of feelings, from the darkest and most frightening to optimistic and blissful. My inspiration comes from such diverse sources as old legends, mythology, science-fiction, fantasy, poetry and music, as well as everyday events. I like to experiment with different styles, media and techniques, including photography. I work as a graphic designer/illustrator and I love having the opportunity to work on a great variety of topics and projects. I also organize art shows, I enjoy bringing together artists with various styles and perspectives in one show.’
As an independent curator, Ivana has organized exhibitions in her homeland as well as abroad (in Berlin, Paris, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Boston, Rawdon…). The group exhibition ’11 visions’ that she curated explored different aspects of femininity, and the ‘Archetypology’ exhibition served as the study of archetypes – universal characters and situations embedded in the collective unconscious. Ivana is also active in the world of mail-art.
